Do you have a waitlist?
No. At API, we know time matters. That’s why we offer no waitlist for ABA therapy so your family can begin services right away.
Where do sessions take place?
We provide in-home, in-clinic, in-school, and in-community therapy to meet families where they feel most comfortable. In early 2026, we’ll also expand services at our new St. Lucie West clinic.
How often will therapy occur?
The frequency of therapy depends on the client’s needs and goals. Some may benefit from several hours of therapy each week, while others may require more intensive support. Our team will work with you to design the right schedule.

ABA services are overseen by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and delivered by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs). Our team brings both professional expertise and personal warmth to every session.

Yes. API accepts several major insurances for ABA therapy, and we also work with families to explore other funding options, including scholarships such as Step Up for Students to cover out of pocket expenses.

How long does a psychiatric evaluation take?
Most psychiatric evaluations can be completed in a single extended session that takes approximately 2 hours.
Do you provide adult autism evaluations?
Yes. We serve clients across the lifespan, including adults who may be seeking clarity later in life.
What is the ADOS-2?
The ADOS-2 is the most widely used and scientifically validated tool for diagnosing autism. It involves structured activities and observations that reveal how an individual communicates, socializes, and plays. Children often call us “the fun doctor” because much of the test is interactive and play-based.
Will I receive a written report?
Yes. Autism evaluations include a comprehensive written report with findings, diagnoses (if appropriate), and treatment recommendations. Reports for Psychiatric evaluations can be given (at no additional cost) if needed and tailored to the need (i.e. school, work, etc).
Can evaluations support IEPs or 504 plans?
Yes. Our reports can be submitted to schools to help secure services and accommodations through IEPs or 504 plans.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not currently accept insurance for our autism evaluations. We do accept the Step-Up for Students FES-UA scholarship and Care Credit.
We accept some insurance carriers for our psychiatric evaluations. Coverage varies by plan, so our admissions team will assist in verifying your benefits.

Do you always prescribe medication?
No. At the Adult and Pediatric Institute, we believe in a “less is more” approach. Medication is only recommended when it is clinically appropriate and after we’ve completed a thorough evaluation. Many clients benefit from therapy alone, while others find the best outcomes with a combination of therapy and medication.
What types of conditions do you treat with medication?
Our providers prescribe for a wide range of mental health concerns across the lifespan, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, mood disorders, and trauma-related conditions. Every treatment plan is personalized to the individual’s needs.
Do you prescribe controlled medications like stimulants?
Yes, when clinically appropriate and safe. These prescriptions are managed with careful monitoring, ongoing assessments, and strict adherence to DEA and medical board guidelines to ensure safety and effectiveness.
How often will I need follow-up appointments?
Most clients are scheduled for a follow-up within 2–4 weeks of starting or adjusting medication. Once stable, appointments may be spaced further apart. This ensures that your treatment remains effective and any side effects are addressed quickly.
Do you combine medication management with therapy?
Absolutely. We believe in an integrated care model. Clients who receive both therapy and medication management often experience better outcomes. Our providers collaborate closely with our therapists to create a comprehensive treatment plan.
