Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluations (CDE) for Autism
Our Approach to Psychiatric and Autism Evaluations
Our autism evaluations are conducted by a collaborative, multidisciplinary team made up of a Psychiatrist, Neuropsychologist, and Psychometrist. We include a psychiatric evaluation as well to give a more comprehensive view of the individual.
This team approach ensures a 360-degree view of each client, drawing on multiple areas of expertise to provide the most accurate results.
Tools We Use
- ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition) — the gold standard in autism assessments
- Social Responsiveness Scales, Second Edition (SRS-2)
- Wechsler Intelligence Scales
- Vineland-3
We also perform structured interviews, developmental history, and behavioral observations.
Who We Serve
We provide autism evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults, recognizing that autism can present differently across the lifespan and in different genders. Many adults who may not have been diagnosed earlier in life benefit from our comprehensive approach to finally gain clarity and support.
What to Expect with an Autism Evaluation
- Intake Consultation – Collect developmental and behavioral history from parents, caregivers, and/or the client. We also request all past evaluations so that we may get a more well-rounded view of the individual during different stages of their life.
- Questionnaires – Various questionnaires (Vineland-3, SRS-2, Vanderbilt, etc) can be filled out digitally through secure, HIPAA compliant portals which reduces the amount of in-person visits needed.
- ADOS-2 Testing & Behavioral Observation – Direct interaction with the client to assess social, communication, and play/behavioral skills.
- Cognitive Testing – If cognitive testing is needed to evaluate for cognitive impairment, an additional appointment will be arranged at a time convenient for you.
- Feedback & Report – Families receive a comprehensive written report with diagnostic impressions and tailored recommendations for therapy, school accommodations, or community resources.
- Follow-up Appointment & Case Management – We will meet via zoom to go over the report and any questions you may have. We then continue to assist all of our families with accessing resources at no additional cost.

Frequently Asked Questions About Psychiatric and Autism Evaluations
How long does a psychiatric evaluation take?
Most psychiatric evaluations can be completed in a single extended session that takes approximately 2 hours.
Do you provide adult autism evaluations?
Yes. We serve clients across the lifespan, including adults who may be seeking clarity later in life.
What is the ADOS-2?
The ADOS-2 is the most widely used and scientifically validated tool for diagnosing autism. It involves structured activities and observations that reveal how an individual communicates, socializes, and plays. Children often call us “the fun doctor” because much of the test is interactive and play-based.
Will I receive a written report?
Yes. Autism evaluations include a comprehensive written report with findings, diagnoses (if appropriate), and treatment recommendations. Reports for Psychiatric evaluations can be given (at no additional cost) if needed and tailored to the need (i.e. school, work, etc).
Can evaluations support IEPs or 504 plans?
Yes. Our reports can be submitted to schools to help secure services and accommodations through IEPs or 504 plans.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not currently accept insurance for our autism evaluations. We do accept the Step-Up for Students FES-UA scholarship and Care Credit.
We accept some insurance carriers for our psychiatric evaluations. Coverage varies by plan, so our admissions team will assist in verifying your benefits.
Is ABA therapy covered by insurance?
Yes. API accepts several major insurances for ABA therapy, and we also work with families to explore other funding options, including scholarships such as Step Up for Students to cover out of pocket expenses.
Can ABA therapy be combined with other services at API?
Absolutely. One of the unique benefits of choosing API is our integrated care model. Families can access psychiatric care, counseling, evaluations, and medication management all under one roof—creating a seamless path for hope and healing.
